With 2018 now upon us, many manufacturers are offering plate clearances on 2017 plated models. The end of a calendar year and the weeks that follow can be a fantastic time to purchase a car.

Here are some award-winning cars from 2017 that you might be able to get at an extra special rate in early 2018. All cars featured in this article won category awards in the Drive Motoring best cars of 2017.

The Hyundai i30 has been no stranger to car awards now for several years. This time it took out the 2017 Best Small Car award for the Hyundai i30 SR. This i30 model has a beautiful design, seat heating and cooling, vast panoramic sunroof, sporty black roof lining and keyless entry and ignition.

It is very quiet on the road and has lots of features including autonomous braking, Apple CarPlay and a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

If you are interested in a fuel-efficient car that is small but still comfortable it’s a vehicle well worth considering.

The Suzuki Vitara successfully triumphed the Best City SUV award. Vitara has a good interior space and has a remarkable off-road performance for an SUV.

It has a handful of features that make this SUV an excellent choice for practicality. The luggage area has wet-gear storage under the floor and deep side pockets. Although SUVs are popular for city driving, the Vitara also performs well off road if you get the urge to get off the beaten track.

Volvo has long performed well in having a brand with a reputation for safety. They have done it again here by winning the Best Safety Innovation award with the Volvo XC60.

The XC60 helps the driver avoid accidents or collisions with its Oncoming Lane Mitigation system. The new technology helps steer drivers back into their lanes if the car detects oncoming traffic. A technology that will likely be seen in an increasing number of modern vehicles.

Volvo has announced this system is part of their goal to eliminate fatalities in its new cars by 2020.

The Green Innovation category aims to elect the cars that contribute to the goal of achieving less harmful impacts to the environment.

In order to help to reduce CO2 emissions, Mazda has created a new engine system that allows the new Skyactiv-X to consume way less fuel without affecting its performance on roads.

This particular car may not be high on your buying list but it goes to show that Mazda is still working hard to improve the technology and performance of all their vehicles.

Best Concept Car

Another vehicle that is perhaps too quirky to ever become a mainstream hit, is the new Volkswagen’s I.D. Buzz. Nevertheless, this renaissance model of one of the most iconic VW models features an incredible retro design as well as innovative technology. The new and refreshed Kombi was named the Best Concept Car of 2017 and will be hitting our roads by 2021. So you’ll have to be patient if you want to grab your surfboard and go on a road trip with your friends in one of these.
